Black & McDonald
Founded in 1921 by World War I veterans William R. Black and William “W.J.” McDonald, Black & McDonald began as a Toronto based electrical contractor serving residential and small business customers. Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA)
The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) is a federal Crown corporation with a mandate to protect the public by effectively and efficiently screening air travellers and their baggage at designated airports in Canada, such as Billy Bishop Airport. CATSA is responsible for a number of services related to security, including passenger and baggage screening and the screening of workers and other non-passengers entering restricted areas of the airport.

Connected North

Fire Hall
Ensuring the safety and security of those at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is always a top priority for Toronto Port Authority, owner and operator of the airport. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport has a fully functioning, on-island fire hall and emergency response centre, staffed by more than double the number of emergency personnel required by Transport Canada. The fire hall utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and vehicles which have been upgraded and expanded over the past few years, including new firefighting trucks, a mid-size pumper and a Fire Command vehicle.

Iron Guppy Tugboat
In July 2016, the Iron Guppy officially came into service, replacing the William Rest, which was built in 1961 for the Toronto Harbour Commissioners (now Toronto Port Authority). The new tugboat, which was built in Wheatley, Ontario, works in the Port and Harbour of Toronto to provide a variety of marine services, including environmental spill response, dredging, ice-breaking and navigation-marker maintenance. When necessary, the tugboat also provides emergency assistance to the Toronto Police Service and Toronto Fire Services marine units. Mechanical systems for the vessel were selected to increase overall efficiency.

Marilyn Bell Electric Ferry
As Canada’s first zero-emission, 100 per cent electric ferry, the Marilyn Bell e-ferry has eliminated the primary singular emissions contributor within Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s operation, and significantly improved the air and noise quality in the surrounding community.
Powered entirely by electricity from clean wind and solar sources provided by Bullfrog Power, the retrofitted Marilyn Bell will eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from the ferry operation and reduce Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s Scope 1 emissions by approximately 530 tonnes per year.
The airport’s ferry operation makes more than 75 crossings per day, 365 days a year, and can hold 15 vehicles and 200 passengers. It transports not only passengers (who love the unbeatable city views), airport staff and essential supplies to and from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, but serves as a vital link for City of Toronto service vehicles to gain access to the Toronto Islands as well as for critical Air Ornge emergency medevac services.

Through the symbol of First Nations moccasins, we aim to connect all people in Canada to the land beneath our feet and the Treaties that bind us. Our vision is to Cover Canada in Moccasins, each a testament to our shared responsibilities and the steps we must take toward reconciliation -“We are all Treaty people”. At the heart of the Moccasin Identifier™ is education and place-knowing (installations), designed to engage Canadians of all ages. Our educational workshops and community engagement opportunities are crafted to be age-appropriate and engaging, covering vital topics such as First Nations Treaties, territories, and our collective relationship with the land. The moccasin stenciling or moccasin colouring activity we offer during our engagement opportunities connect you to the land and allow you to participate in an act of Treaty as you recognize whose land and Treaty territory you are on. Those who engage with the Moccasin Identifier™ team will leave with a greater understanding of the concept ‘We are All Treaty People’. What does ‘We Are All Treaty People’ mean? What are Treaties and why are they important to learn about? We welcome you to visit our booth to discuss, ask questions, learn about whose land you are on and not only reflect on your role as a Treaty person but to take meaningful action in the name of Truth and Reconciliation. Come stencil or colour a moccasin with us and together we will Cover Canada in Moccasins.

Music on the Fly
‘Music on the Fly’ is a program supported by the City of Toronto and ArtHaus. The program was created to provide local music talents with an opportunity to perform in front of YTZ passengers, staff and the community.

Nieuport Aviation
Nieuport Aviation is the terminal partner at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and is committed to elevating every journey, helping communities thrive and ensuring growth is inclusive and enduring. In addition to managing the passenger terminal, Nieuport Aviation offers passengers a free bus shuttle service between the airport and downtown Toronto, helping to provide a seamless travel experience. Since acquiring the airport terminal, Nieuport has invested nearly $90 million in terminal upgrades, including the Aspire | Air Canada Café for domestic travellers, the recently opened US preclearance facility and a host of food, beverage and retail enhancements.

Ornge
Ornge, a not-for-profit organization, co-ordinates all aspects of Ontario’s air ambulance system, the critical care land transport program, organ retrieval and the authorization of air and land ambulance transfers between hospitals. Ornge performs more than 21,000 patient related transports each year. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is used as a vital hub for Ornge, where approximately 4,000 medevac flights occur each year.

Pedestrian Tunnel
Celebrating it’s 10th anniversary in 2025, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport reached a major milestone in customer service with the opening of its, award-winning 853-foot pedestrian tunnel connecting Toronto’s mainland to the airport on July 30, 2015. The tunnel provides the passengers who travel through Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport with a faster and more convenient way to access to the airport, in less than a six-minute walk.

Porter Airlines
Since 2006, Porter Airlines has been elevating the experience of economy air travel for every passenger, providing genuine hospitality with style, care and charm. Porter’s fleet of Embraer E195-E2 and De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft serves a North American network from Eastern Canada.

RCAF Foundation
The RCAF Foundation celebrates and supports Canada’s aviation and aerospace legacy through education, community engagement, and commemorative initiatives. A core part of the Foundation’s mission is to invest in the next generation through scholarships that inspire and enable youth to pursue careers in aviation, aerospace, and STEM fields.

St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program
The St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program is a volunteer-based program and is offered at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport as a partnership with Nieuport Aviation. Therapy dogs provide comfort and companionship to passengers on a weekly basis at YTZ.

Trash Trapping Program
The Toronto Port Authority Trash Trapping Program employs trash trapping technology and solutions-based research to tackle plastic pollution and protect Toronto’s waters for future generations. Since 2019, the program has removed hundreds of thousands of small pieces of plastic pollution from the Toronto Harbour, moving the needle toward cleaner water in Lake Ontario.
The program is led by Toronto Port Authority and the U of T Trash Team, in partnership with the Waterfront Business Improvement Area (WBIA) and the City of Toronto BIA Office Innovation Grant, Nieuport Aviation, the Toronto Zoo, Harbourfront Centre and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA).
It is part of the Toronto Inner Harbour Floatables Strategy, a partnership led by TRCA, and of the International Trash Trapping Network, an initiative led by the U of T Trash Team and Ocean Conservancy, and has influenced the launch of similar trash trapping and data collection programs throughout the Great Lakes and beyond.
